BIO

DWIGHT PRYDE’S comedy is the perfect mix of his middle class, black suburban kid upbringing in Dallas, TX and his current south central, multi family duplex lifestyle. Growing up in the mean streets of the burbs, Dwight had to adapt to middle class black privilege very quickly.

Back home in Texas, Dwight’s family never allowed him to grow into a man. No matter how deep he would dig himself into a bad situation, someone was always right there to bail him out, and that didn’t sit well with Dwight after a while. Life eventually became uninteresting and he knew he needed a change. The restaurant company Dwight was working for, presented him with the opportunity to open a new location in Los Angeles, and they needed an answer in 3 hours.

After working as a chef in Santa Monica, CA for a year, Dwight knew there was more to life other than the kitchen. One day Dwight walked into work and handed his boss his two week notice. The company thought he was crazy! They offered more money to keep him there, but Dwight didn’t change his mind. When his boss asked what were his plans after this job, Dwight replied, “I’m going to be a writer and comedian”. Everyone laughed at him. Not because his dream was impossible, but because he had never written anything or performed stand up comedy a day in his life.

Moving up quickly through the open mic scene, there was not a microphone Dwight Pryde would not touch. From backyards, street performances, and even a few nursing homes, Dwight was everywhere. He would eventually book his first paid gig after a year of doing stand up comedy. $25 and a couple of free drink tickets at a club in Orange County. It was at this moment that Dwight know he had made it to the big leagues! It was all up from that point on. Soon after that, Dwight won “best set of the night” at The Comedy Store. “Best of Fest” at the Burbank Comedy Festival. Also has had multiple guest spots at the Hollywood Improv! In November of 2023, Dwight was selected as Chicago’s Laugh Factory, “Fresh Faces”, where he performed in front of a sold out crowd.

After all of comedy’s ups and downs, Dwight Pryde wouldn’t have it any other way. While most people would’ve taken the easy route and moved back home to comfort, Dwight knew that his purpose was in Los Angeles. It wasn’t the sold out shows or the celebrity friends Dwight started to hang around, but it was his happiness that made his family realize he had finally found his own way in life. Dwight has now lived on both sides of the train tracks, and now the time has come to backpack through the Hood, to Hollywood.
